Early in 2014 RTM announced they would be producing a limited edition Black series of the Abaco, K-Largo and Tempo. It wasn't long before i couldn't resist getting a Black Tempo. Here is an initial overview with plenty of photos.....
At the start of the year i was lucky enough to be offered a place on the 4-man RTM UK fishing team. I happily accepted the offer and will be sponsored/supported by the company over the next year. RTM are based in France and are Europe's largest kayak manufacturer. I very much look forward to using and testing their products over the year. After browsing through their catalogue i settled on getting a RTM Abaco 4.20 luxe, as it looks most suited for what i will be using it for. An order was placed with RTM and on friday i received my brand new kayak! Here's the initial overview and how i rigged the kayak for fishing, with lots of photos..... 2014 DAG MidWay Angler I’ve been aware of the RTM Tempo for years, it’s the only currently available (from new) plastic kayak comparable to my faithful, filthy, battered Scupper Pro. Having left the Ocean Kayak UK Fishing Team a couple of years back I’d had my eye on them for a while but had not got around to doing anything about approaching RTM (Rotomod) – or rather Totaloption, the UK distributor – for various reasons. In the meantime Terry, who many know as Izzetafox, had got involved with them and done some reviews of selected kayaks from the range before joining the Jackson Kayak Team. I chatted with Terry and he introduced me to Marcus at Totaloption. Emails and phonecalls followed and a mutually beneficial partnership was discussed at length, beginning with me getting a couple of kayaks on loan. You see I was not interested in paddling any boats that weren’t as good or better or might not be able to stand up to my own barbaric treatment. 2014 Black Limited Edition RTM Tempo Angler It was 2009 when I first started paddling an Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro TW and I loved it. This was such a great kayak, it tracked well, it surfed, it was good under sail and it could handle any conditions I took it out in which were often conditions where I shouldn’t have taken it out but after finally being discontinued and wanting to change brands I decided in 2013 that it was time for a change; the only problem was there wasn’t anything else on the market that was as good or better for my needs. I knew about the Tempo of course, the RTM version that was a modification of the licence-build mould that had been produced at one time in France for OK themselves and so this was what I decided to change to. It was while looking for information on this that I spotted the DAG MidWay, DAG being part of the Rotomod group and here at last I found something that would allow me to develop things further and a company which produced the kayaks that I needed. So, I approached Totaloption, the UK distributor and the long-term loan of both of these boats was agreed, along with the formation of an RTM Fishing Team in the UK. |
