Just back from the flamborough kayak fishing comp bringing the trophy back for the RTM team....
with the rtm abaco 4.20 my choice of yak for the day. as i had decided that i would be fishing for thornback rays
launch was at south landing ,knowing most of he 50 kayaks that were fishing this comp would be heading left towards the head and into the fast flowing tide , looking for double figure cod or pollock
i made my way out of the bay to the right and found a nice bit of uneven ground about 26 feet deep
Anchored up and sent down a 6/0 pennel rig with a whole squid stuffed with lugworm. on the other rod decided to try for a dab with a 1/0 wishbone rig baited with lug and mussel ,as there was a seperate prize for the biggest flattie
once the tide changed i had a bite on the flattie rod which resulted in a nice dab of 11 oz
then the big rod went struck into a decent fish fought it all the way to the top and saw a nice thornback ray thought it was a double at first but wasnt to be 9lb 4
but was good enough to get me first prize beating my nearest rival mark radcliffe by 1 ounce
